During February 26 public forum, Tarrant County Homeless Coalition’s State of the Homeless Address will outline strategies to end chronic homelessness by 2015
(Fort Worth, Texas)…Tarrant County Homeless Coalition Executive Director Cindy J. Crain will present outcomes from the 2014 Homeless Count as well as an outline from the Continuum of Care Strategic Plan to end chronic homelessness by 2015 on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at a public forum which begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Salvation Army’s Mabee Center, 1855 East Lancaster Ave. in Fort Worth.
In her keynote address, Ms. Crain will share statistics from January’s Homeless Count and reveal trends and other insights gained from the coldest count-night conducted in Tarrant and Parker Counties. In addition, Ms. Crain will detail TCHC’s Continuum of Care strategic objectives and actions for 2014-2015 to achieve the goal of ending chronic and veteran homelessness by 2015.
Fort Worth City Councilwoman Kelly Allen Gray and Community Enrichment Center Executive Director Randy Clinton are also on the morning’s agenda. A presentation by the Consumer Council, a group of leaders that have experienced homelessness, will present the challenges and ideas on the storage of belongings when living unsheltered and in emergency shelters.
Fort Worth Independent School District’s June Davis, Director of Special Programs, will talk about trends among homeless students and how they are tracked and supported throughout their elementary and secondary school years.
“As a community, our duty is to continue to find both stable funding and collaborative and well-coordinated solutions to chronic homelessness,” Ms. Crain explained. “TCHC’s plan for the Continuum of Care will help define clear goals for ending homelessness and open the lines of communications between partner agencies, municipalities and our community at large.”
The Tarrant County Homeless Coalition (TCHC) is a not-for-profit, 501c(3) organization formed in 1989. TCHC leads, coordinates and develops strategies and resources to end homelessness. The CoC planning and coordinating process creates a strategic system of care to provide homeless people with housing and services appropriate to their needs.
The next event to assess the extent of homelessness in our area is scheduled for January 22, 2015—The Homeless Count 2015. TCHC board of directors includes Dan Freemyer, June Davis, Rev. Fritz Ritsch, Donna VanNess, Paige Hines, Paul Harral, Lou Friese and Debby Kratky.
